Commemorating the First Anniversary of Mageri Segoro, Central Java Environmental Agency and Bhimasena Power Plant Thousands of Mangrove Seedlings

Bhimasena Power, Batang Power Plant — PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI), the operator of Batang Power Plant, in collaboration with the Central Java Provincial Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHK), supported coastal ecosystem conservation by planting 1,300 Rhizophora mangrove seedlings in Denasri Kulon Village, Batang District, Batang Regency, on Thursday, October 15. The activity coincided with the first anniversary of the Mageri Segoro program, an initiative launched by the Central Java Provincial Government to protect coastal environments, mitigate climate change, and support coastal ecosystem restoration.

In 2026, PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia committed to providing 30,000 mangrove seedlings, of which 17,300 have been planted to support coastal ecosystem conservation and rehabilitation efforts.

To date, approximately 52,300 mangrove trees have been planted across 6.8 hectares in Denasri Kulon Village.

Mangroves play an important role in maintaining coastal ecosystem balance, providing habitats for various marine and coastal species, helping reduce the risk of tidal flooding, and absorbing and storing carbon.

A trial is currently underway to use mud-filled sacks as raised planting media to elevate seedlings and prevent them from being completely submerged during tidal flooding or exceptionally high tides. The trial results will be evaluated to support mangrove growth and determine planting methods that are better adapted to coastal conditions.

Head of the Central Java Provincial Environmental and Forestry Agency, Heru Djatmika, S.Hut., M.SE., stated that Mageri Segoro is one of the flagship programs of the Governor of Central Java, reflecting collaboration among various stakeholders to preserve the province’s coastal areas.

“Mangrove conservation requires sustained commitment and cooperation. Through the Mageri Segoro program, we encourage the involvement of government institutions, businesses, and communities in working together to protect coastal ecosystems. We are grateful to PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia for its involvement since the launch of the Mageri Segoro program and for its continued support. We also hope that these efforts will extend beyond planting to include maintenance and monitoring, ensuring that mangroves grow well and deliver long-term environmental benefits,” he said.

General Manager of Stakeholder Relations at PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia, Aryamir H. Sulasmoro, stated that as part of the Batang community, BPI would continue to support government initiatives aimed at environmental conservation in Batang.

“For Bhimasena Power Indonesia, environmental conservation is a collective effort that requires collaboration and continuity. Through our support for mangrove planting with the Central Java Environmental and Forestry Agency under the Mageri Segoro program, we aim to contribute to coastal ecosystem protection. We believe that synergy among government, businesses, and communities is key to delivering sustainable environmental benefits for future generations,” he said.(**)
