BPI Wins TOP CSR Improvement 2017

Jakarta, April 5, 2017 – PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI) wins Top Improvement CSR Award 2017 at Top CSR Awards 2017. PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI) President Director Takashi Irie was also awarded as Top Leader on CSR Commitment 2017.

The awarding is an appreciation toward BPI’s commitment and consistency in empowering the people in areas surrounding Central Java Coal Fired Power Plant. The awarding event took place in Rafflesia Grand Ballroom, Balai Kartini, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Wednesday evening (5/4). 

Takashi Irie said the awards are an appreciation from the public toward the CSR initiatives that BPI has undertaken. “Our commitment is to continue to empower the people in Batang and these awards will propel us even further to innovate in preparing and executing our CSR programs for the people,” Irie said. 

The award for Top Leader was given to Irie for his success in leading the company to be consistent in implementing the CSR programs that have been tailored to the people’s needs. The judging panel also believed that Irie has a strong commitment to CSR activities thus the company’s empowerment programs can produce tangible impact on   the people in the social aspect and their economy in a sustainable manner. 

BPI won the award after having a series of shortlisting and judging by an independent team that is credible in socio-economic affairs. One of the key components in the awarding is the company’s effort in implementing its CSR which has been thoroughly adjusted to meet the needs of the public and how CSR programs supporting company business activities. 

Irie expressed his hope that the various programs that have been initiated and completed by the company can be utilized optimally by all elements  of the public. The social programs were designed to fit the needs of the people in Batang and surrounding areas. 

“We hope that the Central Java Power Plant is not only beneficial to efforts to  meet national demand for energy, but also in harmony with the advancement of the people in surrounding areas,” Irie revealed. 

BPI is also committed and has implemented a number of activities that have been included in the Environmental Impact Asssessment (AMDAL) documents and CSR programs, relevant to the mitigation  of impacts of Central Java Power Plant’s activities – be that environmental impact, social and economical effects on the local society. 

To overcome the consequences of land provision, BPI provided replacement land to tenant farmers – a total of 32 hectares – to 218 affected tenant farmers with Right of Use system. Each of the tenant farmers can work on 1,200 m2 of replacement land and plant on it and enjoy the harvest. Moreover, BPI also installed Fish Apartment as one of its mitigation programs which targets affected fishermen.  

A series of community empowerment programs have also been conducted and will continue to be improved to develop a self-sufficient and sustainable society. One of it is Micro Enterprises Group (Kelompok Usaha Bersama/KUB) which has thus far reached 122 KUB with a total membership of 1896 people, especially in affected villages.  

Through CSR programs, BPI also launched educational initiatives, economic development, socio-cultural, environmental, health and infrastructure development. Activities across these aspects were tailored to fit the needs of the people, the local socio-culture, based on the region’s potential and in support of the government’s programs and policies. 

In the education sector, BPI contributed to the country’s development by establishing 14 Village Libraries in 14 villages affected by Central Java Power Plant. In collaboration with Batang Regency Government, Coca Cola Foundation Indonesia and also the local people, BPI continues to sustain its commitment to support the Village Libraries so that they can transform into subjects of community empowerment programs.
