Increase the Business of Batang Power Plant’s Ex Construction Demobilisation Workers BPI Synergizes with PT PII and Disperindagkop & UKM Batang
Bhimasena Power, PLTU Batang – Emphasizing its commitment to maintain the stability of the community's economy in the villages around Batang Power Plant, PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI) is again collaborating with PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero)/PT PII to facilitate thirty-four former construction demobilisation workers of Batang Power Plant who have grown their businesses by providing additional working capital. The handover of additional working capital assistance and entrepreneurship training coordinated with the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs (Disperindagkop & UKM) of Batang Regency witnessed by the Acting Regent of Batang Lani Dwi Rejeki in the Batang Regency Office Hall, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
Batang Power Plant does not allow its former construction workers to become unemployed. Since 2022, during the construction of the completed power plant, BPI and PT PII provide capital support assistance with a total value of Rp 600 million for ex-workers to build their own and group businesses and collaborate with Disperindagkop & UKM Batang for entrepreneurship training.
Batang Power Plant has been operating in August 2022. The construction process of this mega power plant project involves more than 4,000 construction workers from the surrounding population. When the construction work was completed, BPI as the owner of the Batang Power Plant did not immediately let them lose their jobs and become unemployed.
President Director of BPI, Ryuta Sato said, since the operation of the Batang Power Plant in 2022, BPI has provided business improvement assistance in the form of production equipment assistance to one hundred and eleven MSMEs based on mobilisation construction ex-workers. seventy-four (74) of which were given through cooperation with PT PII.
"Based on the results of monitoring the beneficiaries, there are thirty-four (34) MSMEs that we are currently inviting to hand over and entrepreneurship training which we value to increase their efforts, so this support is an appreciation and motivation to develop their businesses even more," said Ryuta Sato.
BPI identified the activities of thousands of former construction workers of Batang Power Plant over the past two years. From the process, 40 former workers were recorded who are now MSMEs and received equipment assistance from the company. They are struggling in various types of businesses, such as crafts, culinary, and so on. Based on the results of monitoring and evaluation from the BPI CSR team, from the 40 UMKM actors, there are 34 of them who are serious about pursuing business and service.
The President Director of PT PII represented by the Business Director of PT PII Andre Permana explained in his speech that as one of the Special Mission Vehicles of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, PT PII is committed to always giving a positive impact to the community, both the impact of the supported project and through the CSR program that is always implemented especially in the area around the supported project, just like PT PII is committed to supporting the program implemented by BPI, the Executive Business Entity of the Central Java Power Plant (CJPP) / Batang Power Plant project, which is the first project guaranteed by PT PII. He also hopes that the sustainability of the CSR program with PT BPI can be realised through other sustainable programs and have a significant and measurable impact on the social economy and the environment, especially for the community around the project area.
"Several programs related to environmental sustainability also seem to be able to explore together in the future, considering that at this time we must continue to support government programs in efforts to preserve the environment, renewable energy and climate change through the principles of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)", said Andre.
Acting Regent of Batang Lani Dwi Rejeki expressed his appreciation for the consistency of BPI and PT PII who periodically support the business development of former construction workers around the Batang Power Plant by collaborating with Disperindagkop & UKM of Batang Regency and always supporting the Batang Regency government in all fields.
"It is proven today, capital support is not only given once, but given several times and adjusted to the needs of business actors, this is a tangible manifestation of the role of the private sector in helping the Government to overcome the unemployment rate and extreme poverty in Batang Regency. I hope this help can be used in the best possible way." said Lani Dwi Rejeki.
One of the MSMEs business actors from Batang Power Plant’s ex construction worker, Sarono Sabar, a resident of Ujungnegoro Village, who opened a straw mushroom business, said that after quitting working in the Batang Power Plant project, he opened a business and got support from BPI in 2022 in the form of additional capital, and so on. From his business, he earns a turnover of approximately up to two million rupiah per month which can be used to support his family.
"This time I got additional capital from BPI and PT PII. I am grateful for the concern from the Company and hope that the support given can facilitate my business. The hope for the future other than producing raw goods can produce finished materials such as mushroom chips", said Sarono Sabar. (*)
