Commemorating World Environment Day 2025, Batang PLTU Supports Mageri Segoro Program by Providing Thousands of Mangroves

Batang Power Plant Supports ‘Mageri Segoro’ Program by Providing Thousands of Mangroves in Commemoration of World Environment Day 2025

Bhimasena Power, Batang Power Plant - In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia as the IPP of Batang Power Plant through the Bhimasena Lentera Lingkungan Program supports the Mageri Segoro Program initiated by the Central Java Provincial Government by providing and planting thousands of mangroves which were carried out simultaneously on the North and South Coasts of Central Java on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

rhizophora mangroveBPI Chief Operating Officer, Naofumi Yasuda, who also attended the celebration of World Environment Day 2025 at the Central Java Province level in Brebes, said that BPI provided more than 6,250 mangroves that will be given in stages and today 1,000 rhizophora mangroves and 250 firewood mangroves were planted on the coast of Batang Regency. This mangrove planting is expected to help protect coastal ecosystems and increase public awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.

"The Mageri Segoro program is in line with our vision to become a company that cares about the environment and society and is a strategic step in reducing the rate of abrasion, increasing the resilience of the coastal environment, and maintaining the ecosystem that supports marine life," said Naofumi Yasuda.

The Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, stated that mangrove planting will be carried out in stages until the target of 1.5 million mangrove trees on an area of 150 hectares is reached. The Mageri Segoro program is a cross-sector initiative that involves the government, the community, and stakeholders in the environmental sector. The activities were carried out simultaneously in 17 districts.

"We carry out this program in a sustainable manner. So starting last May, 260,000 mangroves covering an area of 30 hectares have been planted. Today 200,000 mangroves, 35 hectares. Until later, 150 hectares with a total of 1.5 million mangroves will be planted," said Ahmad Luthfi during mangrove planting activities at Randusanga Indah Beach, Brebes Regency.

Deputy Regent of Batang Suyono during the Batang Regency Environment Day Commemoration Apple said, based on observations by the Environment Agency, the coastline of Batang Regency affected by abrasion every year reaches 5-10 cm. Therefore, mangrove planting has a strategic role and a long-term investment for the future.

"As a form of concern for the environment, the Mageri Segoro program, which literally means fencing the sea, is carried out by all policy makers, including a number of companies, in fulfilling mangrove seeds, and will integrate various conservation efforts, empowerment of coastal communities, and sustainable management of marine resources," said Suyono.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Batang PKK Mobilization Team, Faelasufa Faiz, emphasized that abrasion handling needs to be carried out intensively by planting mangrove trees, because the impact occurs very large every year. Mangroves are able to absorb the effects of greenhouse gases at a very high level, especially in the vicinity of coal-fired power plants. It is hoped that in the future mangrove assistance will not only rely on the support of the Batang PLTU, but make this a shared responsibility

"Mangroves can absorb greenhouse gas emissions many times as much as the absorption capacity of trembesi trees. The biggest target is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and abrasion, so the coast of Sigandu was chosen," he said.

Through Bhimasena Lentera Environnement, BPI has contributed to the biodiversity protection program that has been carried out since 2013 until now by jointly carrying out a program to plant coastal and mangrove vegetation with three groups of fishermen from three villages around PLTU Batang and students from the assisted Adiwiyata school, the marine ecosystem rehabilitation program has been carried out together with partners of the Marine and Fisheries Service of Central Java Province in 2017-2019 and Diponegoro University in 2019-2020 by installing 265 modules of artificial fish apartments (AFA) in 4 locations and installing 4-units of artificial coral reefs (artificial patch reef / APR) in two locations in the surrounding marine area. In 2022 through funding from the Kedaireka Matching Fund from DIKTI-Ministry of Education and Culture, BPI-UNDIP-DKP Central Java Province partnered to add 4-units of APR (420 modules) and 4-units of AFA (120 modules) by using concrete substrates made of Fly Ash-Bottom Ash (FABA) from PLTU Batang, in the sea area around PLTU Batang.
