Batang Regent Inaugurates “Nusantara Basketball Competition,” Encouraging Student Sportsmanship and Youth Development
Bhimasena Power, Batang Power Plant — Batang Regent M. Faiz Kurniawan officially opened the Nusantara Basketball Competition (NBC X Bhimasena Power X PTPN) at GOR Abirawa on Friday (Oct. 24). The high school–level tournament will run through October 26, 2025, with support from PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI), owner and operator of Batang Power Plant, along with PTPN and several other companies.
Carrying the theme “Respect The Game, Respect Each Other,” the competition features a 5x5 knockout format based on FIBA regulations, with boys’ and girls’ teams from Batang and surrounding areas. The event stands as one of the largest student basketball tournaments in Batang Regency.
Batang Regent M. Faiz Kurniawan emphasized that sports play a crucial role in shaping the character of the younger generation, fostering discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
“The youth of Batang must dare to dream and work hard to achieve it. Through sports, we learn discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. I hope this competition produces outstanding talents who will make Batang proud,” said the Regent.
Chairman of the NBC X Bhimasena Power X PTPN Committee, Sanggar Prayogi, explained that the competition was designed not only to crown champions, but also to instill mutual respect among players and uphold sportsmanship.
“We want participants to compete not only to win, but to respect their opponents and uphold true sportsmanship,” he stressed.
General Manager of Stakeholder Relations at PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia, Aryamir H. Sulasmoro, stated that the company fully supports initiatives that contribute to youth character development. He also expressed hope that this event would strengthen the company’s relationship with young people in Batang.
“Sports are an effective means of building strong, disciplined, and sportsmanlike character. Through this competition, we hope to strengthen students’ potential while deepening our connection with the local community,” said Aryamir H. Sulasmoro.
In addition to the matches, the Nusantara Basketball Competition also features participation from local MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), demonstrating support for community economic empowerment throughout the tournament.
The organizers hope the competition will become an annual agenda, a center for student basketball development in Batang, and a platform to strengthen the region’s sports community network. (**)
