Bhimasena Lentera Lingkungan: BPI Holds Workshop on Environmental Preservation and Community Empowerment

Bhimasena Power, PLTU Batang - PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI), once again showed its commitment to environmental preservation and community empowerment by organizing a workshop entitled “Capacity Building for Village Waste Bank Managers BPI Partners Continue Inorganic Waste Recycling Creation and Socialization of Waste Cooking Oil Utilization,” which was attended by 13 assisted Village Waste Banks spread across Tulis and Kandeman Districts and attended by the Chairperson of the Batang Regency PKK Movement Team, representatives from the Batang Environmental Service (DLH), Tombo Village Government, Batang Village Waste Bank Communication Forum (FKBSD). This activity took place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Sidawung Koffie, Tombo Village, Batang Regency.

This activity is part of Bhimasena Lentera Lingkungan's CSR program, which has continuously encouraged community-based waste management since 2015. This workshop presented inspirational speakers who have successfully transformed inorganic waste into high economic value art.

General Manager Stakeholder Relations of PT BPI, Aryamir Sulasmoro through CSR & Community Relations Manager Ahmad Lukman, said that the Waste Bank is an innovative solution in effective and sustainable waste management.

"We believe that Bank Sampah is an effective tool to encourage active community participation in managing household waste independently. By saving recyclable waste, people not only learn to sort waste, but also gain economic benefits," said Aryamir.

The Chairperson of the Batang Regency PKK Movement Team Faelasufa Faiz Kurniawan expressed her hope that all participants could benefit and be able to implement waste bank management. In addition, the Batang Regency PKK also initiated a used cooking oil processing program which began in two sub-districts as pilot projects, namely Tulis and Kandeman. In the future, TP PKK hopes that all sub-districts in Batang can follow this path.

"Currently, waste bank management is a very urgent thing to pay attention to because of the planned closure of landfills in various places. With the existence of waste management at the village level and thank God it has been assisted by BPI, the hope is that it will not only be a place of infrastructure but also an activity. In addition, we also have an interesting breakthrough to process used cooking oil which can be used as an additional source of income and as an environmentally friendly solution," said Faelasufa Faiz Kurniawan.

The workshop included strategic training on waste segregation campaigns from households, skills enhancement in inorganic waste processing, and making creative products from used materials. In addition to being an educational tool, this activity is also a space to share experiences and innovations between Bank Sampah Desa to strengthen networking and collaboration.

The first session presented the socialization of the importance of collecting and selling used cooking oil as part of the circular economy delivered by Dian Pokja III TP PKK Batang In this session, participants were invited to understand that used cooking oil that has been discarded can be recycled and become a source of additional income, while supporting environmental conservation efforts.

The participants also participated in practical training on making crafts from inorganic waste, such as flower vases from paper and plastic waste in the second session which presented Tazuz Salimah as a resource person who has successfully run her business. This training aims not only to improve creative skills, but also to provide added economic value to waste that was previously considered worthless.

BPI always supports all Village Waste Banks under its guidance to be more independent and innovative in managing waste in a sustainable manner, as well as contributing significantly to creating a clean environment and improving the welfare of the community around PLTU Batang.
